Work on the installation of equipment that will give Kilgore residents access to high-speed wireless internet services is almost completed. The equipment is located atop the derrick at the entrance of Synergy Park. Amanda Nobles, executive director of the Kilgore Economic Development Corporation, contacted ESC Technologies, Inc. of Longview about providing wireless services to the tenants of Synergy Park. "Donny McCoy (ESA owner) asked if he could lease space on the derrick to provide coverage to the Kilgore area," she said. Nobles said McCoy was granted that request in exchange for the services the company will provide to Synergy Park.
ESA Technologies, Inc. has recently installed a new antenna array on the oil derrick located in Synergy Park in Kilgore. This array will provide a wireless internet connection to those who do not presently have access to a high speed internet connection or would like to utilize a different service other than those presently available. McCoy has established two companies for BETA testing "to work the bugs out," Nobles said. "We turned the system on last night (Monday)," McCoy said. "Now we're testing the link between Longview and Kilgore." McCoy hopes to have the system up and running by the end of this week for commercial and private clients.
"The availability of this service will have to be determined by a site survey consisting of an on-site verification of signal availability by an ESA Technologies technician," he said. Once the signal availability is confirmed, an antenna is installed on the building.
"This will provide the user an Ethernet connection to which the existing network or computer can be connected," Mc Coy said. "ESA Technologies can also help customers with network firewall or other desired security protection for an additional fee to the wireless internet service."
Nobles said KEDC studies indicate wireless technology seems to be an option that's desirable to both the business and some homeowners.
"The wireless service is another Internet access tool for businesses and citizens in Kilgore," Nobles said. "Kilgore is perceived as a rural area by industries and every new technology we can provide sets us apart. This (wireless service) gives us options only available in an urban center and will give us the ability to attract young professionals who expect these services to be available for them." Nobles said Verizon, Cablynx and ESA Technologies provide services that meet the needs of local businesses and citizens. "We need the wireless technology for those in business and industry who prefer that option, but some prefer the services of Verizon and Cablynx," Nobles said.
McCoy said the system can handle about 2,500 users with the current infrastructure. ESA offers a range of internet-based services including network design and maintenance, application development, web design, web maintenance, web hosting, video streaming and real time webcasting.
